Freelance flight instruction in central Alberta

Mission Statement

Our mission at Under The Radar is to develop great aviators by building great pilots. Through strong foundational principles, deliberate skill development, and sound decision-making, we help pilots make flying second nature, freeing them to focus on what matters most: making good decisions, managing risk, and responding confidently to the unexpected.

Philosophy Statement

We believe that a great aviator is more than someone who can fly an aircraft. A great aviator is a skilled pilot and a thoughtful decision-maker, capable of managing both the aircraft and the situations that arise around it.

Developing this ability begins with a strong foundation. When aircraft control becomes instinctive through consistent, deliberate practice, a pilot has more capacity to assess situations, recognize risks, and make sound decisions. These abilities are not developed by experience alone; they must be built upon sound principles, reinforced through effective instruction, and refined through continued learning.

Every pilot begins from a different place. New pilots need a solid foundation upon which to build their skills and judgment. Developing pilots need guidance that goes beyond simply demonstrating what to do, helping them understand why it matters and how to apply those principles independently. Experienced pilots, too, benefit from revisiting their foundations, strengthening their understanding, and developing the tools to manage situations that fall outside their usual experience.

At Under The Radar, we believe that effective flight training must go beyond meeting minimum standards. It should develop capable, adaptable pilots who understand the principles behind their actions and can apply them when circumstances change. Our approach is built around developing skills, judgment, and confidence through purposeful training and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Ultimately, our goal is to help every pilot become a great aviator: someone who can fly the aircraft with confidence, make sound decisions under pressure, and draw on a strong foundation of knowledge and skill when faced with the unexpected.
